RS,

Try resetting the minimum throttle position. The IAC can compensate for a lot of variation in the throttle idle position, so the minimum air setting can wander quite a lot before you will notice any problems - like hesitation. After cleaning the throttle body and IAC air passages, reset the position and TPS voltage as necessary.

I was thinking about this problem since every TPI owner is a perfectionist (me included, so don't get on defense) because our cars are computer controlled and should be perfect all the time.

And my car hesitates (slightly, no one else notices) the first time I really lay into it since starting.

It either does this as soon as I mash the gas, or on the 1-2 shift. But only does it once per start.

Now I heard the knock sensor tests itself at over a certain throttle position by over advancing the timing to see if it 'hears' knock.

I know I am getting knock counts, but only here, so is this true? I have to do the wicked burnout just to get it out of its system so i could race.

I retarded the timing and run slower after this bs is done so this is the point i'm at. If I advance more I get counts and run slower. If I retard, I won't have the prob of the 1st time hesitation, but will run slower afterward.

Any input? I'm running a custom chip (TPIS stage 5) for my combo (supposedly, since I never knew about this board before, I'd like to shove it down their greedy throats!, by a burner and have at my own chip... which I still may do)

i wouldn't totally rule out the TPS. i have heard and seen them produce good voltage yet still be bad. i can't remember how much a new one is, but i would at least give it a shot. i know just bolting stuff on is never a way to fix a problem, but by replacing it you could be totally sure it is good. my TPS went bad last year, its symptoms were, poor throttle response, and kinda messed up idle characteristics. it was so bad that when you went to take off sometimes, you would give it gas to take off from a dead stop and it wouldn't do anything, so you would give it more and more, then all of a sudden it would decide to go(the whole process took about 1 sec.). my mom had to drive my car one time and she wasn't used to it, so when it didn't respond she just kept giving it gas, when it decided to go(about 1/2 sec later) it peeled out in the driveway! my dad and i about lost it.
