should I...replace or disable the EGR valve??
I have talked to two different people about this. one guy told me it was neccessary to have a properly functioning EGR valve,it was also recomended that I replace the EGR when I had my engine exchanged. today,a guy at the shop told me to plug the vaccume hose or cover the flange on the intake, and get my $50 back.
the engine on my car is a new 305 HO (L69) stock,it has 1 5/8"headers & borla,it will have a holley 650 double pumper, and mallory/accel ignition, the ECM will be retired. in any case, how important is the EGR valve to an engine with a stock intake??
does it really help cool the combustion chambers? or does it clog the intake up with carbon when it fails? I'd likle to keep my car somewhat smog legal....but...running a little better. I don't have to worry about inspections. thanks for the help on this one.

Well, Cars Didnt have EGR until the early 70's and Ran Fine.
My car Hasnt had a Functional EGR for 7000 Miles and Runs better than Fine.
My Old firebird didnt have an EGR either and ran Fine..
My manifold dosent even have provision For one.
No, You Don't need an EGR and I would only consider keeping it if you were smog legal Or computer controlled.
Oh yeah, I disconnected the EGR on a buddies LG$ with all computer control intact and it Ran fine as well.
No codes.

Well, I have heard of many people on here passing emissions testing without a functional EGR, so I'd say you don't need it, but with the Holley carb and stuff, you may want to have it working, or at least see what your tailpipe is spitting out.
