wanna buy a 94-96 caprice...how bad are the 4.3 v8s?

I'm looking at some caprices, and I'm not sure what engines they came with besides the 4.3 v8. Did they come with 305s? I've been told its a 267 small block, and its reliable. What do you guys think? I want it for a cruiser, and not really for power, although a little bit of ***** never hurts. I was thinking about an ex police cruiser, but those are usually beat up, and LT1's aren't sposed to be great. Help me out here guys. Thanks

Tom

No 305's just the big 350 (LT1) with iron heads. I was looking at a cop car (95) and put a bid on it, but some ***** kept going over....

One good thing about the small motor is you are virtually getting a lt1 intake for cheap. You could swap in a bigger sb gen2 motor and up the fuel pressure in the future.

Performance wise they are slow... even the big 350 in that car stock is on the 'peppy' side but thats alot of weight to be throwing around.... Comfortable ride though!

It would make a great daily driver, but don't expect to beat much in it. I tore up an Impala SS a couple months back. You know, the nice black ones that are the same body as the caprices? I wasn't even at WOT... :P

I have since taken it back to stock appearance, but all the parts that I have on it are now for sale and will fit the caprice.
All are for sale except hood and NOS

Me TWO. 'Cept I've got everything BUT a '95 :

Can you pick the fast one, and the faster one?

The L99 in the Caprice is not a bad engine. It is basically a smaller or "baby" LT1, with all of the features and functions of the LT1 with less displacement. You could pretty easily convert to a different engien or use what came with it. Aside from the engines, the cars are very stable and solid - crush Hondas all day with no more than a few dings and scratches, and some heavy breathing and drooling....

Does anyone know the HP figures on the LT1 and the 4.3? What about performance mods on the 4.3? I think what id do is put on an airbag suspension and big ol' rims and a system, plus whatever mods i can do. Should be a cool cruiser. I love the fact that you can fit 6 people in em. One guy I talked to says he keeps having to replace water pumps. Is this common with all LT1s?
Maybe I should think about a police interceptor... someone convince me.

They are some very beutiful b-bodys dallasiroc & vader!!!

It's prolly the only other car i'd ever bring myself to own beside a f-body because they are rwd and comfortable. Someday i'll find one. The police car was a little dinged, nothing major, but it had every add on cooler and i love the 'cruiser' black steel with the chrome centers.

Ohh... well someday...

THEY DID COME WITH 305's. My dad has one. Ex-cop too.

1993 Statistics
Model Engine Horse Power 0 to 100 MPH Top Speed
Caprice Sedan 5.7 litre
350 cid, V-8
205 25.86 132.0
Caprice Sedan 5.0 litre
305 cid, V-8
170 41.86 121.0

1994 Statistics
Model Engine Horse Power 0 to 100 mph Top Speed
Caprice Sedan 5.7 liter
350 cid, LT1 V-8
260 21.64 141.2
Caprice Sedan 4.3 litre
265 cid, V-8
200 30.18 122.1

The chart is not going to come out properly so here is the link. It is at the bottome of the page
http://members.tripod.com/~rbc2097/cap93a.html
It did come with the 305 but the engine was weaker than the 265

If you are going to get one. Try to get one that is 94 or above and try to get an Ex-cop it has the 9C1 mods which make it pretty much an Impala SS

Here are some sites on how to convert it from Caprice to Impala SS

They didn't come with 305's in 94-96, at least that's what I'm understanding here

I love my B-body, although, it's quite a bit older and slower
