Is this good for the first oil change...

Well on the new 383 (Eagle crank, H beams, Speedpro 10:5:1's) I got just over 600 miles on it so far. Oil pressure about 50ish on the highway when hot and about 25 at idle. I went with a stock melling standard volume standard pressure pump. I was using Dino 10-30 oil and a PF35 filter. On this change I used the same oil 10-30 but only could find an ac PF 454S filter so I used that. It seems my pressure is higher now. Maybe because the first filter was clogged with stuff? I dont have a bypass anymore. I went with a Canton Oil Filter unit. When I opened the filter it seemed clean but with some very fine specs here and there, but noting else. Is this normal for the first oil change on a new motor?

It is normal to find small pieces of metal in the filter after a fresh rebuild. it is just the internal parts establishing a wear pattern. i would only worry if you had big chunks.

usually on the first oil change on a fresh rebuild you'll fild lot of assenbly lube and lint from towels, or traces of it. especially if you use moly you'll find the oil very dark. you shouldn't be finding any metal pieces. are you sure it's metal or is it just specs of something?

It "could" be something else. Thre wasnt enough to see if it was metal or not. Just a shiney spot here and there. Could have been the light or the "shavings" that fell in there when I opened up the filter with a hacksaw. lol
