Which Crankshaft do I need?
Which Crankshaft do I need?
Here's the deal. My crankshaft broke right behind the timming gear! WAS I PISSED OR WHAT! 2.5yrs 12k miles on the new engine and i bet it's not under warranty. Now, i have to pull hte engine and the whole thing all over again! I am not happy! So, my mods are; AFR 190 heads, slp runners ported to the intake, crane hi6s ignition, tes headers, flowmaster cat back, lpe 213 cam and a paxton sn2000 (9psi). I also recently purchased a nos kit for a 50 shot to cool the supercharger intake.
Now, i'm trying to keep on a budget. Was looking at a crank madeof 5140 material, however, I recently found out it was made in china
300bucks.......still I have not heard good things of these crankshafts. Now, the local machine shop has a forged chevy crank I can use for 300bucks , but it''s made of the 1049 steel. Next option is the 4340 which is 650$$$
What is my best option here;
1049
5140
4340

I never heard of a crank made out of 1049. Its just a machine carbon steel. Not as good as the other Chromium steel cranks you listed.
