Air Pump Belt HELP Please
Hi all,
:hail: I need your assistance with the Air Pump on my Z28, 1984. I will try and attach a pic of it so hopefully it will make more sense.
I went to start my car and I heard that belt whining sound. So I checked it out and this is what I can came up with.
The belt is for the air pump and is still in good shape. It appears that the bracket that holds the pump (closest to the motor, looking at it from the front) is broken. So here's my questions:
1. Can I remove the belt and drive it home (14 miles)?
Will it mess anything up if I do?
2. Is the bracket only replaceable?
3. How do I test to make sure the air pump is OK?
Thanks in advance!!
Judi

1. Yes. Easy to find at junkyrads, fits lots of Chevy motors from about 82 to 87. No.
2. Yes.
3. It should turn fairly easily by hand; might make a funky little swishing noise; if so, it's OK. If it binds or is rough or real noisy, change it out; that's why the bracket broke, from being overstressed. You can get a rebuilt pump at most any part store for $30 some odd.

I'm glad I can get her home to work on it!
