installing piston
installing piston
I just took out my piston to check something, and now i just wanna throw it back in. I marked the top of the piston to reinstall the same, but is there a specific way the rings should be positioned put before i put it back in?
i hate to ask stupid questions but why would you remove a piston just to look at it? and why would you remove a pistion not knoing the details on how to reinstall it? your manual might or ought to show the correct ring gap positions.
I had oil getting to my spark plugs, and i tore apart my motor before doing a leak down test. So instead of putting my heads back on, i just took my piston out to check the rings. I've since found out the correct gap positions. If looking at the piston from in front of the motor, the gaps from top to bottom should be at 12 o'clock, 3 and 9.

doesnt sound like you should have torn it down then ...lol...was it problems with valve seals ????
haha yeah, leave it to a mechanic to tell me it was valve seals, THEN to tell me we should've done a leak down test
I guess we'll find out whether it was the heads or not after i throw on some with a fresh rebuild.
