Overheat at idle

i have an 89 TBI camaro, it gets hot really fast. My fan works, new radiator, water pump, fan switch, relay, plenty of coolent, cap is on tight, new thermo stat, in the right position no leaks. What could it be?

If the coolant flow is adequate (no kinked or collapsed hoses) then you might be generating excessive heat. A restricted exhaust, late spark timing, and excessively lean mixture can contribute to overheating.

Poor lubrication can also cause heating, nut I'm assuming your oil level is correct and you're using the correct engine oil.

It is also possible that the coolant hoses for the heater core are installed incorrectly, causing coolant to short-cycle the system and not travel to the radiator to be cooled.

Does the radiator get warm? This would indicate that coolant is at least folwint through the radiator.

Does the radiator reject hot air? Is there air moving through the radiator? With electric fan(s), do the fans turn on? If you have a clutch fan, does the fan turn or is the hub slipping excessively? Is there anything blocking air flow from the front of the radiator or AC condenser?

Do you have the correct water pump? Some pumps are designed for reverse rotation for a poly 'V' belt drive, and some are conventional rortation for a standard 'V' belt system. They will not pump well in reverse.

Is the temperature high according to the dash gauge? Is the gauge correct?

Just some ideas.

Well, im know I am running really rich, my cat is a universal catco, so I thik it flows good, my muffler is flowmaster so thats not it. My timing, who knows, havnt checked, the heater hoses, I sure that could b a possibility, I went forma six to an 8 and the hoses were all diffeent. the radiator does get hot, i have enough fluid. I will try the timing and the hose routing. By the way, could abroken knock sensor cause this?

I got the same problem with my 91 TBI. Tried everything except a hi-flow water pump (will be trying that next) and nothing seems to keep it cool. I run a 180* stat and if i come to a red light it will have got up to 220* before it has turned green. The funny thing is that it just started to get hot quick one day, the day before eveything was fine.
