LB9 Knocking, rebuilding; suggestions please!
A couple of months ago after being stupid and showing her off
on my way home afterwards i heard a noise from the motor, when i got her home i had it at idle and i could hear a clicking noise that sounded like it was comming right from underneath the valve cover on the passenger side. I took it up to a local dealership and a couple of different chevy mechanics that i work with and well ive been getting alot of different answers to what it could be. The dealership said that it was a main bearing/rod bearing while all my co-workers think that its the topend. When the motor is just idling there is definitely something up with pushrods cause i can feel something barely "tapping" on the valve cover just barely though. Whenever im underneath the hood and i tap the throttle up to like 2g RPM and if im driving ill downshift let out the clutch and then it gets loud again. I know that i wont know for sure what it is until i pull the valve covers Any ideas what you guys might think it is? i already have it in my head that i should replace the pushrods and rocker arms. Possibly also doing the Cam and lifters but i already have a "mild" cam in there and i figured that if i can get away with it i wont do it. Once i have the rods/rockers/cam? i would put it back together and see what happens. What size should the rockers and the rods be? The Crane Cam Rods length are 7.178 Int. & Exh. (PN: 10621-16) Is that right? or should it be bigger/smaller? also what size rocker 1.5, 1.6, 1.7? Im not looking to hotrod it i just want to get it back on the road until i do the LS1/t-56 transplant this spring. Thanks for any suggestions. and sorry for all of the read.
