MSD 6AL Ignition

Hey guys. I have a couple of quick questions for those with a little more know how than myself. I have aquired an MSD ignition system for free from my father. Still new in the box. I have a 92 Camaro with 305 TBI 5-Speed. I had no intentions of getting an igniton system because I know there are alot of other things I need to cocentrate on first but since I have it I thought I might as well use it. My question is if I should just go ahead a put it on now with the STOCK ignition components or should I wait to get a better modual, coil, cap, rotor, wires, and plugs. No matter what I will buy all those parts at some point so that my ignition system will be as good as it can be but for right now its stock right down to regular AC Delco plugs. I just didnt want to put the MSD on and end up frying the stock stuff.. Let me know what you guys think and any opinions. I dont have email so please reply in the post.. Thanks again

As long as it has all the stuff and instructions I'll give you $100 for it....then you can put that money into something that will help you out more now...and then later on you can buy it back from me for $75 when/if I upgrade my ignition even more.

If you figure...that is basically borrowing my $100 for a year or two and instead of owing me the entire amount plus intrest, you'd actually owe only 75% of the borrowed amount (go ahead and see if a bank will do that for you!)....So you'd be making 25% intrest for loaning me the 6al...And if you look at it from the point of you buying back the msd from me,...you're buying it at 75% of the cost it was to me...and factor in that your $75 will be worth less then than it is now (due to inflation)....I think that is a very good deal. And then to top it all off...you've got to consider your intial cost in the investment....oh wait...that would be $0....so it's 100% profit for you no matter how you look at it.

But if you still are not convinced and don't want to "spend" $75 down the road....No money will be exchanged up front...and in a year or two I will give you back the msd 6al along with $25.

Make sense?....Great...now let's do business!

Keep it, use it, at the least you may experience a slight increase in fuel mileage. Oh, and DO NOT USE WITH THE BOSCH PLATINUM PLUGS. I am usually a proponent for them if you want extended plug changes, but you can't use them with a multi spark box like MSD. Nor any other platinums that are like the Bosch units.

Because an MSD 6al is worthless on cars like ours (unless you plan to twist 7000 RPM's) And have 12-1 compression.

How effective do you feel an MSD Digital 6+ box and coil is on a 400+ HP 500+ TQ 383 SuperRam with 10.5 compression and iron Sportsman II heads with a Comp 218I 224E at .050 duration and .525"I .527"E lift roller cam?

Platinum is not the best conductor, but since the Bosch units are solid core platinum, well, it gets a tad too hot. Copper core Bosch plugs do great with the units though.
Allegedly MSD has had reports of the platinum actually melting. Don't think I'd believe that until I saw it.

Ummm, no. Depending on how much you drive, the increase in fuel efficiancy may be worth it. At least a 5 or 6A.
