newbie i need some motor help
my first post
ok i have a 1990 rs camaro and i have already put edelbrock tes headers, flowmaster exhaust, edelbrock tbi manifold, slp posi unit, 3.73 gears, 160 thermostat, all new shocks and struts.
as of right now in my garage i have a transgo shift kit, corvette servo, .500 boost valve and a .296 reverse valve, 70 something 350 truck motor that just need an intake, water pump, heads, fuel pump.
also before i put this motor in i would like to bore it .030 over and what all does this include me taking it to the machine shop and them boring it over for me then i just need the right size pistons?
with this motor is it just going to bolt straight up to my transmission with out a problem?
and my dad also got a deal from his friend and got me a new 770 holley street avenger for 200 bucks.
i just have a couple of questions i have 1500 saved up right now and when i swap in this new motor im taking out everything i can (a/c, smog pump, anything relating to emissions)
i am planning on doing the whole vortec 350 thing and i have been looking at everything im going to need and this is what i have came up with
-hei distributor
-torque converter lockup kit
-carb throttle linkage
-mech fuel pump or electric??
-L31 vortec heads
-Edelbrock RPM vortec intake
-Xtreme Energy XE274H Hydraulic Flat Tappet Camshaft Complete Kit(includes Camshaft, Lifters, Timing Chain & Gears, Valve Springs, Spring Retainers, and Spring Locks)
if i get this cam that includes the springs what am i going to need to get done to my heads to make them work?
my dad said that he will buy me a torque converter and i also need help with picking out the best one for my setup?
also putting in this motor and my fuel pump am i going to need to drop the fuel tank(or can i get my mechanic to cut out the top like i have seen done before?) and take out the old pump because im going to be using a mech pump? what would be better because im goign to be using nitrous in the future a mech pump or electric?
sorry about all the questions just a newbie that needs alot of help thanks:hail:

Welcome to TGO!
Boring an engine .030" is a machine shop duty. Take the block there, have it cleaned up nice and good. Then they overbore. A .030" requires .030" pistons, whcih gets specified at the time of purchase (of the pistons).
Everything will bolt up fine. Heads, tranny, engine in the car, accessories, all that good stuff. Except the oil pan and what not. You need a driver side dipstick for the 70's block. Your 90's has a pass. side.
For the heads, take them to the shop as well. For lift and the springs, enlarging the spring pockets and milling the guide bosses are needed as they come with 986 springs, IIRC, which are a 1.43" OD. Factory Vortecs are 1.26" OD. Also, screw in studs and guide plates would be a good choice about now.
There's a LOT of converters out there. Lots of companies, lots of prices. Depends on how good you want.
For a quick remedy for fuel delivery, run a Mallory 4309 fuel pressure regulator. It is a return style. This is what is used to bring EFI pressure down to ~5 psi (carb). The excess pressure/fuel gets bled back to the tank. About $75 at Summit or Jegs. As for a nitrous pump, again, lots of choices, lots of opinions.
Lastly, do a search. You can get specifics on everything. Lots of good info on Vortec heads, 350 blocks, fuel pumps, setups, everything, including good documented info on TBI to carb swaps.

They'll need the rods and pistons you're going to use, take the crank and main caps too, only part of the rotating assy you don't need to take in, is the cam...have it all checked out and see if anything needs work.
You will need a different flexplate too, the one you currently have in the '90, won't bolt to the 70's crank.

do it right the first time ...if you find a mechanic that will cut up your car to take out a fuel pump then you need to change mechanics real quick ......
