Strange power loss issue.. really weird!

Okay. Every now and then my car decides to start making a weird noise, and it seems to loose alot of top end power.

This noise sounds rather like a fan hitting air at a high rate of speed, and it gets louder as the RPM's grow, whether it's in park, neutral or drive.

It looses something in the bottom end as well as it becomes difficult to spin them from a stop, even if I mash the pedal down, where normally it's very easy.

Sometimes while experiencing this power loss problem my car decides that it doesn't want to do a brake stand, and 'limits' the RPMs to around 2000, and won't go any higher, even if I floor it, and it won't break the tires loose.

I've noticed that usually this power loss issue with the wierd noise will happen when it's hot outside, however today it has been happening all day...

My normal temperature is up to 195* to open the t-stat, then it runs between 170* and 195* all day long.

Any help would be really appreciated, this one has me stumped!

Thanks guys!!

Never mind I figured it out.

Fan clutch is locked up and keeps the fan on 24/7. Takes alot of power to move that big fan. I'm going to need a new clutch.

clutch fan

I have went from clutch fans to non clutch fans, diferent sizes, hell i put one off a mack truck in a car once in a pinch, and even though i can say i have noticed a power difference it was extremely small in the big picture, and no where near enough of a power loss to effect burn outs.

I honestly havent a clue as to what the problem is, but i doubt the fan is pulling you down that hard.
