Cost for rebuild?
I helped my friend push his 68 stang with a 200 straight 6 into his garage today when we were talking he said the shop is charging him $2200 for the engine to be rebuilt my dad and another car person i talked to said that sounds high. He said the engine ran good but a valve is messed up. The price was from a shop he said alot of mustang people go to. What do u guys think?
maybe a good price, it's hard to say without knowing what machine work would be done and what new parts bought.

Thomas,
Ed is right (as usual). The cost might be good depending on their definition of "rebuild". If it includes a new crank, pistons, rods, fresh bores, new bearings, new cam, new timing gears, new lifters, new valves and springs, new rockers, new push rods, new oil pump, and all labor, it might be worth it. If not, you are only getting a repair rebuild and should pay a lot less. You might even consider a newer 200CID inline from an '80s-something Farimont, Zephyr, Futura, or the like. Soem of those made almost a hundred horsepower and 150 ft/lb. If you want a numbers-matching engine for a restoration, maybe a used head from a newer 200 would work for you since the case I.D. number would remain the same.

Like Vader said, the Later D8-E3 Heads have Hardend valve seats, Bigger Intake and exhuast Valves, and are better Flowing in general. The 250 and 200 heads from those years are the Same.
Milling the head .060 Should Restore the lost compression from the 250 head On the 200.
The Old, Pre 69 heads are Horrible, With Puny valves, Soft seats, and a Tiny intake Log.
Anyway, All this Information, and SOOO much more can be found on the Forum.
