87 octane gas for 89 IROC

Hey, I run 87 octane gas in my 89 IROC w/ TPI 350. What should i put my specs to, to get the most power? Should I be running higher?

Owner of a 1989 IROC-Z Camaro, a.k.a. "The Babe Magnet". Painted a cheap metallic blue that chips off all too easily and covers over the IROC-Z decals on the doors, also has non-leaking T-tops, ps, pw, power rear hatch, working A/C. Mods: SLP intake runners, gutted MAF sensor, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, modified air spoil, 3.27 posi rear end.
Broken stuff: rear spoiler brake light, driver side lock, power antenna, tilt steering, rear end bushings, cracked passanger side ground effect, washer fluid tab, leaking exhaust and a rotted through muffler that sparks when the car bottoms out while driving like any 17 year old does.

If you can run 87 octane with no knocking, you're fine.

If you advance your timing, you may need to run a better grade.

You might want to run a bottle of injector cleaner every once in a while (every 6 months for example) however try running a bottle of octane booster with it, the cleaner wil cause a bit of rough running, the octane booster helps counteract that.

Im not sure where you live fairview park. But octane can depend on altitude. If 87 is the base octane rating "cheap crap" and you run with no pinging or knocking then it should be fine. If you bump it up to mid grade 89 or higher then you will see a slight improvment in power. The most power can be achevied with the best fuel possible and requires a timing adjustment.

Shouldn't have pinging or knocking in a spark retarded system, just a loss of power if it occurs. Unless it's so severe it can't be compensated for.
