HELP>>smoking interior
Hey all,
A couple nights ago I crank the AC to get the humidity off the inside windsheild. Yesterday, I drive out and the AC is spazzing out turning on and off w/ a mind of its own. I here the clutch *click.......clickclick*, etc. and I'm like WTF!!! I play w/ the off switch and it shuts off(I want it off BTW) only in a very specific/awkward position. but if you barely nuge it, it will turn on again.
All of a sudden, theres friggin smoke coming out from the console by the radio, etc. I'm like ohh GOD, she's going up in flames, but I managed to use a straw and blow the beatch out. I shoved the straw through a little space and blew like a hurricane. (gotta love the quick thinking ehh? LOL) ANyway, I'm gonna tear the plastics out and have a look. Any ideas on what the hell happened????
Ohh, and sometimes when I turn the AC on, it won't blow air. I have to pop the hood and tap a few things here and there..then it blows cold air. ANy ideas???

Does ANY air come out when its "on"?? Better yet, do you have any problems with the on and off positions when NOT using the AC?
If you don't then i would look towards an AC problem somewhere, if you are having problems getting air at all times i would look towards the blower motor being messed up or something along those lines.

Do you not get "air" when you've selected the highest speed for the blower motor? There's a relay & fuseable link that control the high speed. The relay's to the driver's side of your blower motor. The fusable link runs down to the starter. If it's the other three speeds (low, mid1, mid2), you could have a bad connection on the blower motor resistors. These are located right below the high-speed-blower-relay, and have a gray 4-pin "funny lookin" connector going to them. They make a lot of heat, and can burn out completely or become intermittant. Junkyard ones work great!
They're held "upside down" by two 9/32" screws.
I'm betting the smoke from the radio console is the "bad connector" that GM put in for the blower motor. I forget who went into it (RB? Vader? Ws6?), but there's something about the design that turns it into a big heated resistor...
My park/neutral switch (from the factory automatic shifter) went up in smoke once... luckily I had the console cover off and could get to it! Funny how it went up though, smelled like a capacitor burning- then it was fine and never acted up again. (Well, I went to the Megashifter soon afterward...)
