What is the right way to remove a rod bolt?
I have a set of rods that I'd like to install a set of ARP bolts into. After the bolts are in, the rods will need to be resized on the big end, which I plan on having done professionally.
But in the interest of saving a few $$, I'd like to R&R the bolts myself if possible.
Is that a job that can be done at home?
If so what would be the correct way to do it?
Thank you

Using a press.
If you have one at home and a way of supporting the rod when you press the new bolts in then you are fine. If not, just let the machine shop do it. I believe that is generally included in the cost of reconditioning rods anyways.

press is the way to go. i did make a jig from a piece of 4" channel and some 3/8 sq. to hold one end of the rod and use air hammer. i doubt you really save much doing it yourself, but i guess it all adds up.

Yeah, after I thought about it I changed my mind, cause they have to square off the surface where the cap goes before the new bolts go in anyhow.
Thx
