code 34 maf/map sensor

I recently installed a new powermaster alt. and the mounting bracket didnt quite line up so i moved the bracket. I the process I put a tack weld to it while it was still bolted up. Now when I run it, it spits a code 34, map or maf sensor. Doesnt seem to effect the car too much?? ::shrugs:: What kind of affect would this have on it? I really dont want to have to replace the MAF due to how expensive they are :\ Not sure about the MAP's. Could this just be because i stepped up from 108amp alt. to a 140? I thought i had a good enough ground for the tack weld, scraped off the paint n what not.

Your '86 does not have a MAP sensor, only a MAF.

You should (once again) disconnect hte battery for a few minutes to clear the error code. Reconnect and restart the engine to see if the code repeats. If so, check the air intake ducts between the MAF and throttle body. Make sure the weld spatter did not melt a hole anywhere, and that none of the duct and air boxes are cracked or split. Double check the electrical connector at the MAF sensor. Clear the code and try again.
