Uhoh, I hear the knocking!!

Haven't started my car for about 3 weeks, and I start it up today. I hear this knocking coming from the engine. I know this is bad, so please don't tell me it's bad.

Nothing has been touched, it's just been off. Oil level is good, and it's fresh oil too. As far as I know, everythings tip top shape, which is obviously not the case. What should be the big things to examine to help cure this before something bad happens??

Okay, I won't tell you it's bad. I will say it's not good though.

The gas may have moisture in it. HEET will take care of that. Check the timing. Check the plugs. If no change after that, just ask, "who's there?", and maybe it will stop knocking and tell you a really funny knock knock joke!

Can you tell where its coming from? Does it sound more like a loose rocker or is it different than that? My guess is that one of the lifters leaked down what oil was in it, and thats where the noise came from. Usually after about a minute or less of idling it will go away.

Thanks madmax. I guess it sorta does sound like a loose rocker, some sorta loud ticking sound, and it comes from the dead center of the engine. Probably the best description i can give is it sounds like the fan blade slapping the fan shield.
