Camaro dual snorkel on a bird???

I have an 86 TA, wich originally had LG4 but now has 305HO (and will get 406 when its ready).

I think that the dual snorkel system was never used on Firebird´s, only Camaro´s.

I am almost sure it should fit in my TA but I have to ask, is there any problem using the Camaro system on 1986 T/A (I am thinking if its fits under the hood near the front)?

Thanks,

P.s. I did try to search but did not find what I wanted to know

It doesn't fit under the hood; that's why it didn't come in those cars.

Its scoops pick up air from the space above the headlights and below the hood in the Camaro body, which a Firebird doesn't have that space.

Unfortunately it's not real applicable to your car, as it sits. It might be possible to rig something up to pick up air from the sides of the radiator intake area, where there's a couple of plastic panels now; or perhaps from inside the fenders, somewhat like the Bird TPI or a Mustang intake duct. Other than that, I can't see how you could really take advantage of it.

I hoped it would fit because I saw a HO intake (single snorkel) on a 1984 Transam, but it has the power bulge hood (and that might be the reason it fits on 1984 birds).

It should fit if your hood insulation is gone.. I once had a dual snorkle set-up on my 86T/A but noticed little difference over the single...The T/A hood, once closed, blocks the pathway of air to the air ducts. GM could have come up with something different than the Camaro set-up... I guess it was payback for the T/A ruling the 70's.....

There is no insulation in my hood so it should fit.

So you think there is no gain for me to buy the dual snorkel because of the TA hood?

I have an open element right now but like the look of the camaro setup and thought it would at least be as effective as my K&N.

But you are right, there might be a problem for the air ducts to get enough air.

Thanks, Jon H.

actually the 84 HO intake on a TA is odd because it's single snorkel until you hit those secondaries, then the power bulge acts as a second intake :P (that's why there's a big hole in the top of that air filter thingie :P
