Code 42
A couple of days ago, my 87 iroc just went flat with no power, and the engine light came on, it threw a code 42 and a code 53, so i checked the distributor cap, which of course was all corodded, and replaced the cap, rotor, plugs, and plug wires. then i cleared he codes. today when i went out to drive it, it was fine for a few minutes, then it went flat around 1000-1500 rpm, and it wouldnt idle, then the engine light came on, and it threw a code 42, so i went through my haynes manual, which sucks, and i checked the EGR valve, and it works fine with a vacum pump, so i checked the vacum coming from the solenoid, and there wasnt any, so i checked the source vacum from the carburator and i wasnt getting any vacum from the carb, so is the carb bad?, or does it need to be cleaned?, if it can be cleaned, how do i go about doing that?, any help will be appreciated.

You won't have any vacuum going to the EGR when the engine is at idle. The EGR should be closed at both idle and WOT. Egr is supposed to be used during partial throttle only, and only after the engine is warmed up.

The vacum source from the carb should always have vacum, thus the need for an EGR solenoid
and the check engine light doesnt come on until it is warmed up

code 32 is for EGR, code 42 is for EST, Electronic Spark Timing. a EGR problem would not cause a no power problem. a code 42 can cause it. check to make sure the timing set connector is plugged in all the way. if it's ok, check the magnet on the distributor shaft, they can get weak or come loose on the shaft.
other things that can cause your problem are a bad/weak ignition module, a problem with the tan/black wire between the ECM & the ignition module, the ECM, the pickup coil.
