New Mini Starter Getting Heat Soked
Ive got the jegs prostarter for $150. Ive already put some heat raping on it and the d*mn things still gets heat soked. I called jegs to see if my stater is to close to the header. They said if it were a 1/4" or closer I would have issuses. I checked mine and I have 1/2" as seen in the pic. Im out of ideas and p!ssed.

What is this "heat soak" I keep hearing about??
You do realize that is you had any kind of a temp problem at all, that nylon tie wrap would long since have turned into a puddle under your car?
I happen to have the same starter you do, a Nippondenso, except that mine has an aluminum adapter block made by CVR on it. Mine is about as close to my headers as yours. No problems here. It was on a 400 in this same car, with headers, for several years. No problem with that motor either.
No "heat wrapping", none of that foolishness. Just bolt it up and it works.
What is it really doing?

I just realized that I spelled wrapping wrong
After I drive it for a while then let it set for about 25-35 minutes and try to start it. Nothing happens, no clicking or anything. I do see the temp gauge go to the very right when I turn the key to engine start. So I know theres nothing wrong in the steering column.
I have to turn the key several times until the starter works.

That doesn't sound the least bit like a starter issue. Sounds more like either your ignition switch might be defective, or you have a VATS problem.
The temp gauge going to the right has nothing directly to do with operating the starter. It's a whole other contact of the switch, that grounds the temp gauge wire, thereby simulating a serious overheating condition to the gauge. It's completely separate from the circuit that works the starter solenoid.
I'm betting that if you put a voltmeter on the solenoid lead of the starter, you wouldn't see 12V when it malfunctions. That's not the starter's fault.... kind of like, it isn't a light bulb's fault if it doesn't light up because the light switch is broke.
Your car has VATS also, and there could be a problem with that system; there's a starter relay that people talk about, behind the driver's side kick panel that could be bad; outside of that, I don't know much about that system.

I know that my security light doesnt come on. It never came on since I owned the car. Maybe the light is out or the vats is messed up. Or it could be the starter relay. Next time the car acts up agian im going to tap on the starter relay and see if it helps. If not im going to check the vats.
Is there a way I can test the starter relay?
