...and kinda' lucky so far. opened up the oil pan today while waiting on some "technical help" and so far, cylinders look great - can even see the ol' cross hairs in 'em. but - 31k ago when i had the intake off, apparently i missed one of those nasty little metal grommet things for the intake gasket and found it in the oil pump screen...
so the teardown will continue and hope for the best... for now, i gotta figure out how i'm gonna flip that bitch back over on the stand...
made a hella' mess yesterday when all those "leftover" fluids came gushing out.

on second thought, that mighta' been the dealer that missed that grommet years ago. not saying they did or i did, but i thought i was pretty thorough about my accountability with all of them. surprised the plug didn't pick it up...

well it started out with the exhaust being blocked and just all messed up (not a reason to pull the engine) then decided to fix all the leaks - valve seals, oil pan, timing cover, etc. - so while it's out do what it needs. just got the heads off a little while ago to take them in for a valve job and new seals. other than that, they looked great. as for the block, leaving it alone - appears to be in perfect shape - same for the lifter valleys, etc. hard to believe all these miles and it has NO signs of wear. as previously mentioned, you can still see the cross-hatch marks in some cylinders. and i use pennzoil... as for mods, going to consider a cam for it. i don't intend to get too detailed with it to the point i need a new chip - just basically bolt-ons and mild other things, a little work for the tranny, etc. going to be putting my SLP's on with a cat-back, as well. but overall, i'm pleased as heck with the condition of my engine - couldn't be happier, unless it didn't leak!
