Must Rebuild!! Beat By F-250!!
Ive had it, last nite i was getting whipped by a F-250 in my 91 z28 with a tpi 350 when i realized i need more power. I must rebuild soon or buy a crate motor so i need some opinions on what to do.
Rebuild or crate motor?
To stroke or not?
TPI or holley stealthram?
Stock heads or aftermarket?
What pistons since i might use nos?
Im trying for 350hp if its possible for under $4000

Have you ever built an engine before?
To stroke or not?
How fast do you want to go and do you know what's involved?
TPI or holley stealthram?
How much money do you have? How fast do you want to go?
Stock heads or aftermarket?
See the answer to the above.

It's not NOS, it's nitrous oxide, or just nitrous. NOS is a brand. Cast pistons can take like 125. I'd go forged.
Perhaps you see where I'm going with this. How fast you want to go depends on how much money you have to spend. You've got the budget and power level down. Emissions, fuel economy and a few other factors are left to be considered.
Oh yea, one more thing. Try a search. I swear a 350 rebuild thread starts about every other day.

depending on how desperate you are, you can get a 350 crate that puts out 350hp.... but with the motor you have, you can get more hp and better parts for that money... most the guys on here get crates to replace their 305's (I did) but if you already have a 350, youre one step ahead... if your car is stock, i would suggest exhaust first... and if you are truly set on a nitrous oxide setup, then you would probably want to upgrade your pistons and valvetrain... a cam with a more nitrous friendly grind.

I have headers and full exhaust, msd, 25lb injectors and soon ill be burning chips.
I have rebuilt several engines and i have some tech school background but im still not an expert.
My budget is about $4000 now, more by the time i pull the engine.(maybe 6 grand)
Also i need to have some fuel economy and pass emissions.

Since no one else has any ideas Ill throw a combo out there.
Rebuild your L98 and bore it .030 over
Lt4 hot cam kit
Edelbrocke Performer heads
Holley stealth ram conversion for TPI
2200 stall
3.73 gears and posi
And a custom chip.
The motor will and stealth ram setup will put you around $4000. Then the stall and gears could run you an extra thousand or maybe less if your thrifty. Either way with a good tune that motor will put out well over 350hp and with the proper suspension and tires youll be hitting high 12's. Just my
Good Luck.

I was also thinking i could just slap on my edelbrock performer intake and carb off my spare 350 after the rebuild. But im not sure if it would help or not.
Is stock tpi better than my edelbrock thunder 800cfm carb?
Or should i buy the steathram?
