Rockers for Vortec Heads
Do you have to use "Guided or self aligning" rockers on Vortec heads or can you use guide plates and regular rockers?

If you don't use self-aligning rockers, you have to replace the press-in studs with screw-ins made for the guide plates. Machining required.

After all the press-in studs are removed, the bosses will be milled to obtain a flat surface. Then, each hole will be tapped out.
How much, I don't know. Probably in the range jaretz28 estimated - you need to call. If you are putting them on your 305, you'll need them milled about .045 to bring down the chamber volume to keep compression up - the intake will need to be shaved as well to allow it to align back up to the ports. Add that to the price estimate (about $40-60/head, I'd guess).
I'd highly recommend you reconsider the Vortecs. For the same money, you could get World S/R Torquers that have screw-in studs, don't need guide plates or self aligning rockers, and a standard intake will bolt to them. They flow about the same as Vortecs. They also have the exhaust cross-over passage so your EGR will work - Vortecs don't.

I'm sorry, I guess I should have mentioned that the heads will be going on a 355 that I am building to replace my LG4. Do the SR Torquers really flow as well as the Vortecs? If SR Torquers will make the same power as the Vortecs I will go with them so I wont have to buy new rockers, intake, valve covers and such. There are so many options as far as heads go, I will take all of the input I can get. Thanks!
