HELP ! i think my puter' is fried!
umm ok.. heres the situation sorry for the length.
a few months ago, i tried to dial in my timing to 12*.... when i took the timing measue, i got like 38* of advance at idle! now, i checked several times, and even had a mechnic get the same thing. now, here's the wierd part. when i unplugged the 4 wire connector for the distributor, it ran ****ty like it should for about 20 seconds... then it started runniong normal!! wtf!
ok, so i set it by ear as to when it pings etc, its been fine since.
today i was fooling around under the hood and found this thing onthe firewall hanging from that lip at the top of it under the hood, with a 3 wire connector and a thing on the bottom that looked like it went to a vacume line! mind u i have a carburated car. its an 86.
so i go to pull the codes with the connecter undone to try and figuer out what it was... the ses light came on when i started the motor as it should, because the connector was undone, no problems ran the same as before i unplugged it. so i turn it off, throw my paper clip in there, and the codes wont come out! the ses light comes on and stays on... until i started it. now mind u i have pulled codes left and right from this car...
when i start it, it goes off and runs fine when that connecter is plugged in. now the TC does lock up, which i think means it is going into closed loop right?
whats wrong guys? why does it seem like the computer is runnin in limp mode? the motor has good power, no power loss, and fuel economy has been normal...
