vaccum leak???
I've been having this problem for about 2 months: My car usually idles at around 750 rpm in park/600 in drive. Lately, my engine has been idling at around 500 rpm in park or drive. When it does this it lopes from like 600rpm to 300 rpm constantly. I have replaced the plugs, replaced the wires, checked the timing, cap, and rotor. Everything seems fine. The only thing left I can think of is a possible vaccum leak. I check all vaccum hoses for leaks and replaced the PCV valve. The only thing I noticed that was different was that there are "varnish-like"(if that makes sense) stains around the area where the carb and the manifold meet. Could I be losing vaccum there? Any input is appreciated.
By the way, my setup is a 305 LG69 w/ Holley 600 e-choke, MSD Distributer, 1" spacer, no smog, no cat.

Are you including the EGR in the no smog comment?
If not (and it really isn't just smog equip), could be a bad EGR from what I've experienced....
Otherwise, the vacuum leak or a bad fuel pump/filter. Those varnish stains shouldn't be there though. You may have a leak around the spacer at the manifold. I'd probably start there first.
