PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ADVISE!!!!!
my car is a 305 tbi it has a 180 degree thermostat. When i cruise around in the daytime the temp. goes up to 220 and sometimes a little hotter. I have just flushed and rodded out the radiator. What can i do to keep it cooler. Also when it gets that hott the chek engine lite comes on and the transmission starts to shift harder and taking longer to shift. It is like my car loses alot of power. What is wrong with it? Someone please help. Thank You.
Is your fan working? The stock temp sensor is designed to kick the fans in up in the 195-210 range so it wont make a difference how cool of a stat you have because the fans will still come on at the higher temp. You can get a sensor that kicks the fans on at a lower temp to match a cooler stat. Also check to see if your air dam is installed in the front under the nose of the car below the radiator. This helps cool air get to the radiator at high speeds.

my fan is connected in a way that it is always on if the car is on. The air dam is there and gets air to the radiator. What about a better waterpump, will that make a difference. OR maybe a new intake. Say the edelbrock performer. What will that do?

You might need a new radiator, just because it's not leaking doesn't mean it's still doing it's job completely. I just replaced my radiator with a stock replacement and I noticed a slight difference, but the thing still heats up more than I'd like it to. I don't see how a different intake would make a difference as far as what temp the engine runs at. An aftermarket waterpump would probably help a lot. Check to see what code you are getting from the service engine light. 220 degrees is within normal operating temperature, so that shouldn't be the cause of your problem with it shifting weird.
well I got a 3 core radiator from autozone, a 160 degree thermostat, a performance water pump from autozone and I replaced the air damn and I always run cold, never even see 220. usually right at or under the first dash mark, not sure the temperature though
