What would cause a freeze plug to pop????

Mine did today after I had driven for about 20 minutes,in a school parking lot,all my anitfreeze leaked out,what could of caused that????

i had one go out on me recently and i replaced it with a brass plug, i believe they don't corrode as easily, but defineatly old age will do it, might want to replace as many as you can get to
