tripometer won't reset

My tripometer wont reset. I tried fidgeting with the reset **** but nothing happens. The **** shows alot of wear n' tear, it resembles a striped screw head. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

You ain't gonna like it, but the answer is a new gague cluster. When mine failed there were little plastic support pieces inside the odo that broke and prevented it from resetting- stuff could more around in there in unnatural ways). No way to fix it but a new gague cluster in my case. Or you could crack it open and maybe see if you can crazy-glue stuff back in place to get it working. I personally took one look at it (after ripping into it) and said "forget it" and bought a new cluster.

If the trip odometer shaft is floating around because the plastic J-hooks broke off, you can wire the axle down.

Do a search, it was discussed a couple of months ago.
