RMK,

Start and warm the engine with the radiator cap removed. This will allow entrapped air to escape more easily. Regardless of how much air is displaced by this procedure or any other, you will have to monitor the cooling system level for several days.

The problem is often not entrapped air in voids in the cooling system, but the fact that most water contains air. Unless you refilled the system using deaerated water, the air in the water will liberate when the water is heated to about 170°F. The freed air will form more pockets of air in the system until they are vented.

You can reduce this by using water from a garden hose as opposed to that from a faucet with an aerator. You can also pre-boil the water to eliminate most air. Allow it to cool, then mix it with the anitfreeze. You will still have to monitor the coolant level, but will probably have lees to add.
