ok i have my engine down to the bear essentials but still intact as far as cam pistons and crank. i was planning on honing then reringing and putting in new mains and rod bearings. they make oversized rings and bearings for these.001-.005 i believe. if its worn that much would i be safe using these provided they were the right size after i measure?im not having the crank turned so pretty much im gonna check the size and put new bearings of the proper size in it. is this safe to do?? im BRoKE so i hope so.

It sounds like you took the engine out and took the heads off. If you are going to do new rings then you might as well get the block cleaned up and the cylinder bores done. If your rings are in bad shape you heads probably have some wear on the rockers also. Have you checked the timing system. Are there grooves in the gear? That would indicate a need for replacement...
There's a lot of stuff that is going to be accessible only while the engine out. Just doing the rings while not doing the other stuff means that you are going to have to do that stuff pretty soon, and have the engine BACK out.
Reliability doesn't cost as much as speed, but it still ain't free.
How much are you trying to spend?

well actualy im already over budget. i had the heads redone and ported im puttin in a cc306 buying a new timing chain rockers and springs. however i cant realy afford to buy new pistons and pay machine work. the cylinders look good as if they still have x hatch in them still. pretty much i spent all my budget on everything but my block
stuff adds up fast. so i was thinking since the cylinders look that good i would just hone and throw some bearings in it. also i was wondering why people cant use a stone style hone on 350 cylinders??
