Question about startup
Question about startup
I have a 88 Camaro RS with a 305 Throttle Body. My car never, NEVER, starts when cranking it over the first time. It always takes two cranks to start, and in order to get it to start I have to push on the gas. It has been doing this every since I got her back in June of 1999. Other than that she runs perfectly. Thanks a lot for your help. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Patience, grasshopper. Wisdom sometimes flows slowly from the tree....
But, anyway....... Given you have TBI, some of this is going to be fun. You need to check your fuel pressure, and verify that it HOLDS pressure when the engine is off. Try this, cycle your key to "on", listen for the fuel pump, should run about 2 seconds. If you hear the pump, turn ignition off, and then try and start the car. If dont hear the pump run, then chances are your FP relay is toast. If you hear the pump, and the car starts right up the next time you cycle the key, chances are the check valve in the FP is bad. (this is where checking your fuel pressure becomes neseccary.....)
Also, if you search the archives for "hard start" you will come up with a wealth of info.
Good luck and have fun.

Thanks a lot for the info. Just a week ago I got a new fuel pump installed. So could those problems still be present? Thanks
