poncho 400 in an 85 blazer?

This isn't really 3rd gen. but its Tech. My friend has an 85 blazer thats straight, but needs an engine and tranny. I have an extra of both, and was wondering if a poncho 400 would fit. I'd like to use this as a parts hauler, and a big V8 would just be an added bonus. I know people have gotten SBC blocks in them before, but the poncho block is bigger, i think. I would need custom headers probly. What else? Would it be easier to go with an SBC? Thanks

Tom

Alot of work but sure anything could be done.
a SB 400 would be a better choice though.

If this is a S-10 blazer I'd scrap the idea. The SBC barely fits as it is. In an 85 you'd have to notch the A/C housing by the firewall for the SBC. Not hard but that's for a SBC too. What would you have to do to get the poncho in there,(it's bigger isn't it)? I'm thinking the steering shaft is in the way and the oil pan won't clear. The only way I can really see it working is to put in a body lift. When I changed the engine in my 92 I had to lift the body off the frame to get the bellhousing bolts. I should have done the lift since I went through all that trouble.

IF you could get a decent SBC and a trans to go with it then it's a fairly easy swap. The parts are becoming common and the size is about perfect. The last time I looked at least 5 places were selling the mount adapters and most of the other parts needed.
