oil change question

I did my first (ever) oil change on my 1991 Z28. The owner’s manual states the capacity is 5 quarts. It looks like 4 quarts came out and I put in the 5 quarts in, with out thinking. The dipstick shows that the oil is over the limit. I did replace the filter. This is a 305 TPI.

Has any one experienced this? Should I take some of the oil out to match the dipstick? Is the crankcase capacity really 5 quart?

dont worry friend it is 5 quarts. What filter did you use? If you used a Fram then my first suggestion would be to... "practice" doing oil changes one more time and get a quality oil filter, fram has good marketting, and a horrible, horrible horrible horrible product.

Then that might ease your mind a bit. Go get a *good* filter and replace the one you got on there now (regardless of what it is). The oil in the filter and resulting spillage when you take of old, new one off will put your level closer to the max fill line.

Someone here will come along soon and say something about the dangers of overfill if they exist at all.

It's a Mobile 1 filter and Mobile 1 oil.

This was my first oil change on this car, not "ever" Gotta watch how I word things!

Thanks!
