Hey, the bolt on the back of my alternator broke off completely....I cant get it out, would it be possible to use jb weld and put the wire on like that for a temp fix???
Or is there something else I should do?

not hard to take apart and there isn't any way around it unless you just replace the alternator

ahh ok, well I went ahead and tried my method....I just cramed the wire in between two nuts...on the bottom nut there wasnt enough thread on the bolt/stud or whatever you want to call it so I used jbweld to weld the two nuts togehter....worked like a charm. I know its ghetto rigged but what can ya do

Why fix it the right way, when you can halfass it and save 3 seconds. Kinda like cutting a hole in your car to change a fuel pump.

Uh oh lets not start that debate up again!

I'd bet if you found a place that rebuilt their own alternators & starters, you could've brought the alternator in- they probably would've fixed it right there, and charged you $10. At any case, go thru the phone book and call a few places, it's worth a shot. If that JB weld breaks, you'll be on the side of the road with a dead battery. Plus, I can't even imagine how that's making a good solid connection. There's no way your battery's getting the full alternator output from a half a thread and JB weld.

it should be making a full connection, because the wire isnt actually welded its the two nuts...the only reason why the jb weld is on there is to cram the nuts together because there isnt enough thread left.

btw, Ive had the alternator out and took it apart before I dont want to do all that again and get another stud, if I have to I will though...right now it seems good enough if it breaks it breaks. Will I get stranded? maybe, its happened before

I probably haven't posted here in 20 years, so fitting I am posting to a 20 year old post.

Perhaps your fix can be added to JB Weld testimonials
