Hey, i have an 86 Z28 with power steering and im getting about 5* of play to the left and right from center. Is this a bad steering box? Power steering pump?

Any number of things can give you play in the steering. From the rag joint to the outer tie-rod ends. You need to look, and see where it is coming from. Have spare set of hands move the steering wheel back and forth (engine off, and only to the limits of the play), and watch and see which parts are sloppy.
Or, jack up the front of the car, steering locked, and grab ahold of one of your wheels at the 3 and 9 O'clock positions, and see how much you can move it. Look to see what parts are responsible, and replace 'em.
The steering box can be tightened up some, but, be careful, as it is possible to over-tighten it, and have truly bizarre on-center behavior. (Voice Of Experience. Your car will NOT go straight down the road.)
