F-body vs. Fox-body
F-body vs. Fox-body
Okay so here's the deal, I just purchased an '84 Camaro Z28 with a 5.0L H.O. and I have the notorious cousin with the '92 Mustang 5.0 LX. Well here goes, my Dad and I were BS'n with my cousin and we came to the idea that we are gonna race for pinks. Well here's the low down on the Rustang:
1992 5.0 LX
no internal engine mods or head work just bolt-ons
Underdrive pulleys
K&N filter
old motorsport plug wires
motorcraft plugs
borg-warner dist. cap
Mac ceramic coated headers
Centerforce gold clutch
Stock T-5 tranny
stock 2.73 posi rear gears
a buncha added weight in the car(books, speakers, and stuff)
AND a guy who doesnt know how to launch with out doin a burnout or bogging down.
And the ol Z28 is getting in the next couple days:
Late model 350(dipstick is on the same side as my 305 H.O. hehe)
forged flat-top pistons
big lunati bumpstick (don't know duration yet)
stall converter
my 305 H.O. heads (ported and polished, of course
stock 3.73 posi rear end
sticky 14in tires to lower the gear ratio to 4:10
250 hp NOS system
major weight reduction
I told him that he can inspect my engine and see that its the stock 305(hehe) and I am gonna stick my NOS in later in the afternoon after his "inspection". So, I know, im kinda cheating, but I also told him he could do any mods he wants in one month's time. Thing is, he is one of those peeps that likes to say he's getting a supercharder and never does. So, who do u think will win and by how much, I know u guys hate these questions, im just curious. So help a brotha out and tell me your opinion and also tell me my new mods i should do for my '92 mustang i am getting hehe
Thanks,

Get Differnt Heads.
And Give up the funky 14" Tire Idea.
Fix that, and you wont need NOS.
You really need to be More spcific, Tho.
Want to Sell the crank pulley from the HO you pulled out ?

I don't know much about the Mustangs, or how much his mods will add to his performance, but even without the NOS I think it would be close. But with a 250 shot of NOS you should beat the living Crap out of him

Hey thanks guys, and about the heads, i can get some double hump heads, its just that my 305 heads will bump compression big time and look stock. The tires, I have heard it drop the gear ratio cause it has less tire to turn. About that pulley, I know, its an under-drive pulley right? I might be interested in selling it. Thanks for the replys and keep em coming and give me some guesstimated ets.
Thanks.

I'm voting this thread ends up locked, just cuz it is too vague and way too open to flame bait. It's only matter of time before slow iroc jumps in and tells us how the mustang can run 12s if the guy spends a weekend turing wrenches and spends $33.75.
As it stands the guy's ET would all be based on launch, which is VERY tricky in a 2.73 geared stick mustang. With a respectable drive it's a high 14 second car, maybe 14.7. With gears and exhaust, half decent tires and half decent launch it could be anywhere from low 14s to high 13s.
As for you, you don;t even know, how the hell should we. You wanna race him for pinks? Better turn that shot down cuz you can't win if you scatter your motor at 4500 rpms. And you won't hook up an 14" tires, noone makes a good 14" tire. You lower your effective gearing by running shorter tires, not rims. And you don't need that much more gear anyway with stock 3.73s and a 700 w/ stall.
Basiclaly, this thread hos no point, if this was my board it'd be smackdown time...bort are you trolling again?

Castin my line....
I say run a full shot, On your Stock 305.
Either you win, Or he gets a Car with grenaded Motor!
the 416's Will Raise your compression, and Kill your Flow. They are decent On a 305, and Puny on a 350. Get teh Double Humps.
But like ed said, Without more Info, Its too hard to Call.
But If you race for pinks, and Win, Im sure Slow Iroc would want to buy the Five-Oh.
