more power + smog?
I have a 1984 trans am L69. do you think headers, new cat and catback system, port and polish heads, add some power without messing up the smog s*** and will it work with the computer? Any other suggestions for boosting power but not messing with the smog and computer?
84,
If you've done some homework, the newer 345s (LS1) are making 385HP at 6,300 RPM with tighter emissions regulations than your '84 ever had.
In other words, it can be done without too many headaches.
Also, for maximum benefit, you might want to use the cash you were planning for the cat-back and install a different camshaft kit instead. You'll get a lot more out of it and can always tweak the exhaust system later.
