My gas gauge just started having siezures. At a constant speed and smooth acceleration/deceleration the gauge is fine but as soon as you jerk the car at all the gauge goes bonkers and twitches badly. Could it be the float in the tank or the gauge itself?

Get used to it, because it will only get worse. Mine does the same thing and now will sit at way above F until one day it drops to 1/2 tank and acts normally until E. It is the sender in my case because it did it with the stock gauge and now with the Autometer one too.

Did it act exactly like mine does before it started doing what it currently does? I would like to fix this problem. What is involved in dropping the tank? Does the rearend have to be removed?

Ask Guido about dropping the tank... he seems to like to do this quite often to install sumps and such! IIRC, you need to drop the rear and/or muffler. It's kind of a PITA, but doable in the driveway (though this is from a guy who has installed just about EVERYTHING in the apt complex parking lot...).
