timing control questions
Ok I have had my eye on some MSD equipment, mainlt the timing control hardware.
first off i want to know will this work with our cars since it is already controlled by the ecm?

so would this work withour engines? whats the deal? also it notes at the bottom that it must be used with an MSD Ignition Control. are they refering to a msd ignition box?

Don't know much about MSD, but you could get a Moates switching adapter and remote switch and run several Bin's with different PE timing, and do the same without messing with regular spark timing. But, timing isn't going to give you the gains you're looking for when you're running a knock sensor feedback system (unless you've modded the car a lot), with a custom Bin, you can tune it to find what timing it needs at full throttle for best power without knock, and that's pretty much the end of the story - no need to run a different spark table unless what you create is really sensitive to say lower octane or something and want to be able to floor it on low grade.
If you simply add timing everywhere, and happen to reach knock, it'll likely pull more timing out than you actually added, undoing your added spark. If you custom burn a prom, you can tune a base table for no knock and best performance at 14.7:1 A/F, and then tune full throttle Power Enrichment Spark for best performance with little to no knock at 12.5:1 A/F, and not have to worry about switching anything, and have full control where the timing is at all loads.
I'd only recommend a switching device like an MSD for retard situations where things like Nitrous is added, or it's not computer controlled and different octanes are used, or where PROM burning isn't possible.

I beleive that control only works IN CONJUNCTION WITH an MSD ignition amplifier system (Like the typical MSD 6-series). It won't plug directly into your factory ignition system, it "piggy backs" on top of their own boxes. And yes, if used with one of their boxes it will allow you to adjust the timing of an ECM-run ignition system.

It's just like Damon said.
If you used it with the factory ECM, you'd connect the 6A box the same as you would ordinarily, then put the timing control on top of that.
I'm not sure how the ECM would take all that. The one I'm using is with a carbed/vac HEI setup.
