Need help picking the right cam...
Need help picking the right cam...
I am currently building a 355cid motor and was wondering which cam do you guys think I would be best off running. Before I go ahead and ask let me give you some info about what I have.
The heads are cast #376450 with larger ports and valves (1.94/1.625). 60cc chambers with dished pistons so I will have about 10:1 compression. For the intake I have SLP runners and siameased plenum with edlebrock baseplate. I have 3.73's in the back and will match the stall to whatever cam I get. Lastly I have a pair of SLP Tri-Y Headers.
I am looking for something that could maby pull to 5,500 or so and I am not to worried about how streetable it is cause it wont be a daily driver. I need a hydrualic flat tappet cam. So far is sent a form into crane and this is what they told me to use with a 2,500 stall.

also was looking at this one from TPIS

Any recomendations or info would be greatly appreaciated, thanks alot

Do yourself a favor though, when you call comp cams. Over a 2-3 day period, call twice a day. Then take a look at what they recommended every time. I have seen people call 3 times and get 3 different recommendations.

I'd suggest looking at the Comp 304 and 305 cams; then have a custom cam ground using the Xtreme flat-tappet lobes, that's as similar as you can conveniently get to whichever of those you think would be more appropriate (probably the 304 with those relatively poor-flowing heads). That would come out to something like a 5441 intake lobe and a 5212 exhast lobe, on 114° lobe separation, with 1.6 rockers. You'd get better results with 1.45" OD valve springs such as the 986.
