Where is PROM located?

where is the prom located in a 89 firebird formula. I just bought a chip and my engine soon light keeps flashing really fast. So i want to check my prom and see if i need to replace it. How do i get to it? how do i know if its bad? and what do to clear all the codes if its not bad?

You cant physically 'check' the prom(which is located on the ECM under the dash on the passenger side) to see if it is ok or not. You'll need to see what codes are being put out.. for that you'll need a scan tool, Diacom is one example, to scan for codes using the 12 prong? plug under the dash on the drivers side.. check out hte tech articles from the main page of this site, there is one or more i believe that illustrate pretty well how to do this. also, when the SES light comes on, it doenst necessarily mean that your chip is bad.. something is wrong w/one of the sensors(or their picking up something that is wrong w/the engine)..think i answered everything, if the tech article doesnt help(enough), then people on here will be more than willing to offer way more knowledge than you'd ever need to know..heh(im not one of them, cuse i'm not that familiar yet w/code, scan tools, and what have you)

edit: to clear codes(do it after you've found the problem) disconnect the battery for like.. 10 seconds i think it is
