Drum Brakes
Drum Brakes
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Unfortunately, this question pertains to my 2nd car,and '89 cavalier coupe, 4cyl.
It has an annoying habit in damp weather (or after getting water sprayed around the rear wheels) to just love to lock up the right rear at very light brake application. The condition rectifies itself after a few stops to dry/warm up the brakes. The shoes have been replaced with no improvement in performance. Any thought on what else could be causing this?? Some corrosion in the wheel cylinder?? Rust and crud on the backing plate??
I had a friend with a cavalier of similar vintage which had the same problem as mine.
Thanks in advance.

there is a gm bulletin that applies to this with snow or alot of rain getting in past the backing plate. new gm backing plates per bulletin is what i'd recomend.
