Those welder's who come to your house, anyone have experience with them?

Hey my frame is rusted badly under the A-arm and it needs to be welded up before it will pass inspection or be safe to drive.

I'm wondering if I can have a welder come to my house to weld the car, since the engine is going to be out of the car. Are those guys just as good as the ones who have body shops? I mean, what are they capable of when it comes to fixing cars? Should I just have my car towed to a body shop that does welding.

If the weld breaks, the a-arm will fall off and if I am going at any reasonable speed, it could cause a serious collision with hard things such as telephone polls, guardrails, cliffs, other cars, etc.

Thanks,

Robert

I'm sure they're just as good, but trying to weld underneath a car, even one on jackstands, would be difficult. the weldor could miss something.

I think having it on a lift would be best, everything could be looked at and done correctly.

Thanks Mike, I hadn't thought about that. I'll probably rent one of those U-Haul car tow things and pull the car in to a shop with my parent's van.

Uhaul gave me a hassle about towing an f-body on one of their tow dollies because their book said the front wouldn't clear. I was towing a wreck that was hit in the front so I convnced them to let me rent it anyway, but they really weren't supposed to let me have it. I dont know if it would have really been a problem or not with a not wrecked car.

you'll pay a lot more for someone to come to your place to weld it than if you took it to a shop, plus they'd charge travel time.
