Texas visual inspection, non.emmision
For Texans living in non.emmision counties,
does the inspector really require that the
air cleaner have that 'vacuum air door' thing?

In South Texas I have never once had an inspector open the hood on my car. Most just check to see if your lights and breaks are working. I can be in and out of most inspection stations in about 5 minutes.

under hood visual inspection is required in all counties in Texas. that said some don't check, most do, all are required to check things such as brake fluid, horn mounting, power streeing fluid & belt if equipped, emission parts including the hot air door in the breather, the hot air tube, EGR valve, the charcoal canister & related vacuum hoses.
