Magic distributor?
I am still new to mechanical aptitude, so you'll have to forgive me in advance
I am trying to pull a distributor out of an old junked 1985 Z/28 (305). I read the manuals, looked online, and still can't get the damned thing out. It says there is a holding clamp and bolt, but haven't seen it anywhere. Does anyone have an exploded view of this part of the motor, or just general ideas?

If you look at the distributor you will see that it actually goes down inside the intake manifold in the rear. You just need to follow the distributor down to where it goes into the intake, and you should find the hold down clamp and nut. They are located on the intake itself. It would also be a good idea to remove the distributor cap especially if it is a large cap HEI, as you might run into clearance problems getting it out. Once you have the hold down off and cap removed, pull upwards on the distributor and it should come out fine. You might have to jiggle the rotor back and forth a little bit to free it up, but it's a pretty straightforward deal. Hope this helps, Paul Moore

I just use a regular box end wrench. I have no problems getting it loose. You don't need to take it all the way out, just loosen it off so you can move the clamp outta the way.
Look right under the distributor cap, about 3-4" below it, on the intake manifold. You'll see a Y-shaped peice bolted down to it. Thats the clamp.
