Was 87 a freak year?

My daily driver 87 LB9 5-speed seems to be a mix of parts from earlier and later camaros. Things like the AC compressor are unique for the year, as are some of the electronics (I believe). Was this a transition year or something?

Yeah, 86-87 were an odd combination of parts. Front end accessories are a combination of v-belts and serpentine stuff. 87 Heads were centerbolt style but do not use self-aligning rockers. Lotsa little things were sorta unique to the 86-87 cars. Just ask anyone who's tried to put a centrifugal supercharger on their 86-87 TPI engine. They don't exist.

I have an '87 Z-28 with v-belts and a Paxton centrifugal supercharger. They do exist, just have not been made in about 5 years.
