how about using it as a hood opener?
You could keep the manual unlatch piece in the car and pull that then without manually lifting the hood you can use the switch or acuators to lift the hood some how.

Actually, I was thinking about doing that, sicne I am under the hood alot, but its just too complicated to make it work right, and my wallet's kinda skin-and-bones with the kinda money I make, lol, so I really couldn't go the 'trial and error' route.
