My 84' TA

Ok, so I just bought a 84' T/A from a guys whose day passed it to him after his death. It's in excellent shape for the age, T-tops, dont even leak. Having always been a Ford guy I have decided to direct my attention to GM for awhile so forgive me for my total GM ignorance and I give you permission to laugh at me when needed. I have done some reading on the net and I noticed that alot of T/A's came from the factory with CFI units around these years, I cant seem to find any info that give specific years for what induction used. Mine has a ECM controlled 4BBL unit. This is the real strange part. The guy I got it from says that his dad had the engine replaced some time before he passed and I need to get a starter for it. I when to the local parts store and using the year and engine size of the car the starters didnt match up to what came off. I ended up with a 84' Monte Carlo as a point that work so thats the starter I used. The VIN on the car says it should have a LG4 lo po motor. So I guess my question is, are there any visible signes between the LG4 and the L69 motors? Heck I couldnt even tell you if it really is a 305 and not the 350.

The crossfire was available in the TA and Z28 in '82 and '83 only.

What kind of transmission does it have? That might make a difference in what starter you can use.

The LG4 should have a single snorkel air cleaner, and L69 should have a dual snorkel with cold air scoops.

Ok, I bought a cheap Haynes manual, and it answered a few questions. As far as transmission I will research it tomorrow. I do know the guy at the auto store based it on a Monte Carlo of the same year. The VIN on the car says it should have the LG4 motor, however is it not possible for someone to install a L69 when it was time for a new engine and still (as dumb as it sounds) use the stock LG4 filter and single snorkel setup.

Is it a 5-speed manual (a T5) or a 4-speed auto (700R4)? Those are the trans's that would be original to the car.
