Newbie question

Ok, I hear a lot about people adding K/N air filters to their cars as mods. What exactly does this do? Are they talking about just the filter or getting like a modified appararatus? Thanks in advance.

The reason is that the filters are very good. You never have to replace them and if they get dirty you can clean them. Also they flow better. The filter will even flow better dirty than a brand new paper element filter. Hope that helps.

You can buy/make cold air setups which simply move the air intake somewhere other then by the engine so it sucks in cooler air which is better for the engine. But most people are probably just talking about changing out the filter with one from K&N which will give a small, but noticable improvement in power. Hope this helps, and welcome aboard.

ok, so what's one gonna cost me and can i use it with a TBI? I looked at the filters at Nextgenparts, and they are definately not meant for what I have now...I'm guess I need to either buy some apparatus for the filter or is it only for a TPI?

They make them for TBI all you have to do is look for them. Autozone, Checker, Pepboys, all carry these filter. Also check Jegs and Summit. They sell K&N and other types that are the same. Good Luck!

Well, it will flow at least as well as a new paper element (at least a good paper element). The real beauty of the fiber filters is that they maintain a constant flow for a lot longer time. A paper (actually cellulose fiber) element begins to get restrictive as soon as it gets a little dirt on it, whereas a cotton/poly fiber element maintains a more steady rate of restriction until it is really filthy. At that point, you clean and re-oil it and it is ready for another 20,000 miles. They are almost as good as an oil bath air cleaner for being consistent.
